Calcinit - Improved soluble calcium nitrate
Yara Fertilizers has been working on further refinement of the insoluble component, i.e. the impurities that fall out of solution and settle in a mixing tank or block lines, filters and drippers, of their proven calcium nitrate product, YaraLiva Calcinit.
Over the last 10 years, product analysis shows Calcinit typically had 300 ppm of insolubles (max. 500 ppm). Now the specification is typically 50 ppm (max. 100 ppm).
Yara Crop Nutrition’s New Zealand Commercial Manager Glen Baylis says: “Calcinit already had a low level of insolubles compared to many competitive products, so this improvement is an impressive development from the Yara R&D team. It means that today, YaraLiva Calcinit is almost 100 times purer than the first product produced around 50 years ago.”
Craig Lamb, Helensville Area Sales Manager for Fruitfed Supplies, says he’s looking forward to seeing the new formulation Calcinit being used by local growers.
“Yara has a long-standing track record of providing quality products which they continuously research and improve,” says Craig. “Calcium nitrate is a key product, being the highest input by volume for greenhouse production, so any improvement in its formulation and reduction in impurities that can block lines and drippers will improve the overall function of a fertigation system. The ongoing refinement of an already trusted product provides further confidence for growers.”
